Summary
Docoloc: This system was fifth in the 2008 test, seventh in this test and only twelfth for the English test cases. A major problem was flagging plagiarisms that could not be found in the possible sources reported! It did manage to find the sources that we expected just about half the time, but for a teacher who does not know what the source is, this is highly irritating to not be able to determine why certain sources are being given. The reports themselves are extremely hard to interpret. There is no side-by-side presentation, you have to search yourself in the links given. The markup is misleading, as the highlighted areas are not the plagiarisms found, but the samples tested. The navigation is unclear. We also experienced server problems during the test, but the company received a high professionalism rating as our (anonymous) questions were promptly answered by email.

“Oben in der ‘Kurzfassung’ steht, dass Docoloc ‘Plagiate meldet’. Das ist falsch. Docoloc ist für Forschung und Lehre konzipiert und aus einem solchen Umfeld heraus entstanden. Wie auf den Docoloc Webseiten beschrieben ‘findet Docoloc in einem Dokument Textpassagen, die auch noch in anderen Dokumenten vorkommen. […] Als Ergebnis erhält man Plagiate, Urheberrechtsverletzungen, Zitierungen oder weitere Ablageorte des Dokumentes im Web.’ Die tatsächliche Relevanz, eine rechtliche Einstufung oder Prüfungsbewertung kann nicht durch Software festgestellt werden. Eine abschließende Beurteilung muss immer durch einen Menschen erfolgen. Der Docoloc-Report unterstützt genau hier den akademischen Dozenten.
Weiter schreiben Sie oben: ‘Die Auszeichnung ist irreführend, da die markierten Bereiche nicht die gefundenen Plagiate, sondern die getesteten Stellen darstellen.’ Wir möchten hier klarstellen, dass die Markierung den Satz umfasst, zu dem ganz oder teilweise Übereinstimmungen festgestellt wurden. Natürlich sind nicht alle Stellen markiert, die getestet werden.
Im Bewertungsbereich ‘Professionalität’ wurde leider weder die Hand-in-Möglichkeit von Docoloc betrachtet, noch die bei vielen Kunden im Einsatz befindliche SOAP-Schnittstelle, über die die Docoloc-Plagiatsuche in DMS- und Konferenzsystemen integriert ist.
Wir sind dabei, eine Gegenüberstellung von gefunden Quellen mit dem geprüften Dokument zu implementieren. Da die häufig sehr farbige, plakative und unpräzise Gegenüberstellungen von Textsstellen ohne Formatierungen unserem Anspruch nicht genügen, entwickeln wir derzeit eine neue Gegenüberstellung.
Docoloc wird seit 2004 in über 200 Institutionen professionell eingesetzt und hat bereits viele tausend Plagiatsfälle aufgedeckt. Universitäten setzen Docoloc sogar erfolgreich zum Überprüfen sämtlicher studentischer Arbeiten ein. Dies zeigt, dass Docoloc durchaus für den Einsatz in Hochschulen geeignet ist. Darüber hinaus wird Docoloc international von Forschern im Rahmen wissenschaftlicher Begutachtungsprozessen eingesetzt. Eine Benotung ‘kaum brauchbar’ weisen wir daher zurück.”
